A recent study “Telstra Asia Pacific Transformation Vision: Optimising for Hybrid” made by the telecommunications and technology giant Telstra showed how business decision-makers in the Asian Pacific (APAC) region were rethinking their operations and work arrangements to benefit both employers and employees in the hybrid work era.

3 key transformation priorities for APAC businesses

Their research shows that there are three key transformation priorities
for businesses in Asia Pacific (APAC):

  1. Increasing investments in emerging technologies;
  2. Improving cybersecurity; and
  3. Increasing the pace of digital transformation;

According to 45% of APAC leaders polled, the first step—investing in new technology—will be crucial to establishing a successful hybrid work environment as organizations aim to promote team collaboration and communication across remote work locations.

With 57% of APAC leaders planning to invest in technology that can assess productivity in a hybrid work environment and optimize their operations accordingly, data and analytics technology has also come out on top when it comes to information and communication (ICT) spending.

For example, based on ONE’s user data for meeting in recent months, the no-show rate of room reservations in an office can reach up to over 40%. Based on data from Inc. survey40% of an office’s dedicated desk space sits also unused on a given day.  These office facility misuses can be resolved by the smart office management system.

Productivity and Economic Impact in a Hybrid Environment

Despite the pandemic’s losses, the data indicates that organizations are not slowing down their growth goals. Because it creates opportunities for new talent from anywhere, enabling remote work is undoubtedly beneficial for both businesses and employees.

70% of businesses have hired talent from all over the world, and 85% of businesses are embracing hybrid work arrangements that let employees manage their obligations at home and at work, the report showed.

Despite the reopening of offices, 83% more virtual work was anticipated by the firms questioned in the following six to twelve months.

Additionally, 74% of workers in APAC believed that flexible work schedules improved productivity for both themselves and their colleagues.

Optimizing Hybrid Work with New Technology

According to 72% of workers, one crucial transformation strategy is to expand the function of human resources to encompass comprehensive hybrid rules and guidelines. This may involve influencing an organization’s productivity measurement system, like Microsoft Viva.

Moreover, over 56% of APAC leaders note that organizations have begun to track how often teamwork and communication tools are used to gauge productivity, and half of these leaders measure productivity by the output based on the work completed.

The changes from the past two years have triggered leaders to respond to new expectations from their employees and prompted businesses to accelerate their digital ambitions to stay relevant and continue to be available for customers.
