How does Citi Singapore define its new work models globally to improve flexibility?

Citi Singapore define its new work models globally to improve flexibility. Here explain how.

Due to the global epidemic, employees were unable to return to work in their offices. Citi, one of the world’s largest banks, has customized a new long-term work arrangement for this purpose. Citi Singapore is part of the first phase of a global program planned to be rolled out in 15 countries and regions.

The new work model of Citi bank

Citi intends to offer its global workforce a new work model that provides consistency, permanency, and flexibility. The new work model will classify staff into three globally consistent role designations, helping identify the best model of flexibility and helping them achieve better work and life balance.

Under the new model, employees worldwide are divided into three globally consistent role designations. The new work model applies to Citi’s 8,500 employees in Singapore.

The three new roles for Citi’s employees

The three new roles for Citi’s employees, hybrid, resident and remote.

  1. Most roles globally are designated as a hybrid working model, enabling employees to better manage work-life balance while experiencing the benefits of being together in person. Associates assigned in hybrid roles will have the opportunity to work remotely up to two days per week if they wish.
  1. Resident roles are those roles where they can only work on sites, such as employees in branch offices or those working in data centers. These employees are expected to work fully on-site.
  1. Remote roles are those which can be performed offsite given the nature of their work. Employees whose role has been tagged as a remote role have the opportunity to work off-site for up to five days a week.

In Singapore, most of Singapore Citi’s staff have been designated as a hybrid mode. The reasons hybrid roles are that allow the employees to work flexibly, and Citi understands flexibility is very important to Singaporeans. The recruitment agency Randstad interviewed 1000 workers, it found that 77% of the Singaporeans said that they focus on working with flexibility.

How does hybrid work benefit Singapore employees and Citi?

For Singapore employees, hybrid work provides them the flexible working hours, flexible work styles, and flexible locations

Working with flexible working hours that allow Singapore employees to spend more time with their families.

A flexible work style can make them happier and more engaged in their work so as to have high productivity.

The flexible locations allow the workers to choose where they want to work. When the workers go back to the office, there is some equipment to help them to work better, which is only found in the office. Also, the reduction in travel time and expenses for remote work, is especially appealing to the younger generation in Singapore.

For Singapore Citi, flexible work can help Citi recruit or retain their talents, and let Citi consider redesigning the office

Facing a tight labor market and the need to attract developing potential, Citi should nonetheless give certain remote working choices to improve its capacity to recruit or retain its talents. A survey shows that 42% of Singapore employees consider quitting if they cannot work flexibly.

Also, as the workers are not always back in the office, Citi could consider redesigning the workspace by reducing the unnecessary fixed tables and changing the tables to hot desks. Therefore, the saving area could be rebuilt as a co-working area for gathering or reducing it to have less rent

Since the aim of Singapore Citi is “best support colleagues while still providing excellent service to clients”, then hybrid work allows Singapore Citi’s staff to spend more time with their families and ensures the customers can have excellent service as the workers have high productivity.

Therefore, Singapore Citi is suitable to adopt the hybrid roles as hybrid work makes the Singapore employees and Citi more flexible on work and allows both of them to enjoy the benefits of flexibility.
