One of the Indonesia bank has implement hybrid working policy permanently. Their director explains why.

PT Bank Amar Indonesia Tbk (“Amar Bank”), became the first bank in Indonesia to implement the Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy permanently, known as the Hybrid Working Style.

This policy is also in line with the Blueprint for Digital Banking Transformation published on October 26 by the Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan, OJK).

Digital Transformation in Indonesia Banking Sector

In the 2020-2025 Indonesia Banking Development Roadmap, one of the pillars that become the policy direction is the acceleration of banking digital transformation.

One of the important points mentioned in the blueprint is the transformation of the banking organization’s design which includes four aspects: Workplace, Structure, Authority, and Workforce Enablement.

In the aspect of Workforce Enablement, it is written that the transformation of a digital bank requires changing the workplace into a digital workplace.

The blueprint also explains that banks need to develop a digital culture as a strong foundation to change the mindset and understanding of bank administrators and employees to be oriented towards a digital vision to support the company’s digital transformation.

Work From Anywhere for Amar Bank

Amar Bank is the first FinTech-powered bank in Indonesia, which first implement the Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy permanently, known as the Hybrid Working Style.

Vishal Tulsian, President and Director of Amar Bank, stated that this pandemic has caused businesses to realize the advantages of remote labor. Returning to the old style of working is equivalent to faxing after the development of email.

Employees may continue to concentrate on effectively giving good service to clients, adjusting to changes in consumer behavior, and being able to meet every consumer need throughout this pandemic with this digitally-centered and flexible manner of working.

Amar Bank has been embracing remote work as part of its startup culture since the beginning of 2014, but the official implementation of the Work From Anywhere policy began in October of this year 2022.

Lots of Indonesian considering switching to a hybrid work system

The second annual Work Trend Index report from Microsoft shows that as many as 66 percent of workers in Indonesia are more likely to consider switching to remote or hybrid work systems.

Modern Work & Security Business Group Lead of Microsoft Indonesia Wahjudi Purnama said the pandemic that has lasted for approximately two years has significantly changed the way people interpret work in life.

Referring to Indonesia-specific data, this Work Trend Index report reveals five main trends. Among them, employees have a new view of what is considered ‘worth it’ at work.

Wahjudi detailed, as many as 48% of employees in Indonesia said they tend to prioritize health and well-being more than work, than before the pandemic.

Flexibility and well-being have become something we cannot compromise. By welcoming and adapting to these new expectations, the organization can actually prepare every employee and business for long-term success,” said Wahjudi.
