These activities include streaming music, watching TV, cleaning, and exercising.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>35% of remote workers<\/strong> spend an<strong> average of 104 minutes<\/strong> per week watching TV when they should be working;\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About 38% of respondents <\/strong>spend an <strong>average of 76 minutes per week <\/strong>exercising during work hours.\u00a0In fact, <strong>more than 70% of respondents<\/strong> said they <strong>have more than one job and spend up to 16 hours a week at another job.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, employees only <strong>work for a short\u00a0working period,<\/strong> thus it has <strong>a bad impact\u00a0on productivity<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Paying_extra_high_costs_for_remote_work\"><\/span>Paying extra high costs for remote work \u00a0<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When employees do non-work-related activities during their office time, it must affect their productivity and will bring additional high costs to their employers. The reason is that workers need to work overtime due to low productivity, and companies <strong>have\u00a0to pay overtime for these employees.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the study, spending an <strong>average of 104 minutes a week<\/strong> watching TV when you should be working costs companies<strong> up to $2,251 per employee<\/strong>.\u00a0And spending an <strong>average of<\/strong> <strong>76 minutes per week exercising<\/strong> during work hours also costs their employers <strong>$1,651 per employee<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, the study noted that these activities might cost employers up to thousands of dollars.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Remote_workers_want_more_autonomy\"><\/span>Remote workers want more autonomy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A large part of the reasons why employees don\u2019t want to return to the office is because of the freedom they already have. Working remotely gives them more control over their day-to-day work.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>28% said they would miss out on exercise if they went back to the office;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>28% said they would miss streaming music;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>26% said they would miss spending time with their families.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If they were forced to return to work in an office, the <a href=\"https:\/\/mediacenter.adp.com\/2022-04-25-ADP-Research-Institute-R-Reveals-Pandemic-Sparked-Shift-in-Workers-Priorities-and-Expectations-in-New-Global-Study\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ADP survey<\/a> found that 64% of employees would consider leaving their current company for another.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/image-61.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2590\" width=\"569\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/image-61.png 675w, \/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/image-61-300x145.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 569px) 85vw, 569px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Source: 2022 OSlash Survey<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Employees who work from home value their better work-life balance and will not give it up easily. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Returning to the office would entail foregoing flexible hours and spending less time with their families. It might also mean spending more time commuting, sharing public restrooms, and working in quiet (or worse: having to listen to bad music). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Returning to the office may also result in less sleep, as remote workers can take an afternoon nap to increase their productivity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are some of the reasons why most remote workers are hesitant to give up their independence; 78% stated they would rather take a wage loss to stay from home than return to the office. Respondents from Generation Z were the most willing to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oslash.com\/return-to-office-or-else\" rel=\"nofollow\">OSlash<\/a> study, flexible scheduling is one of the strongest incentives to sway them back to the office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Measures_to_encourage_employees_to_return_to_the_office\"><\/span>Measures to encourage employees to return to the office\u00a0<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Some organizations understand how expensive it is to recruit new talents, so <strong>42% of business leaders<\/strong> are <strong>willing to increase salaries for non-remote workers<\/strong>, and <strong>38 % even said they would offer travel allowances t<\/strong>o attract employees to return to work in the office. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The OSlash study notes that while remote work offers a relaxed work atmosphere, bosses need to take the risk of paying high costs and it is difficult to monitor. In fact, many reports indicate that hybrid work is the best choice for the future of work.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Finding_the_balance_between_freedom_and_profits\"><\/span>Finding the balance between freedom and profits<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Remote employees may be able to retain some of the independence they like as more organizations experiment with hybrid work patterns and four-day workweeks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With more employees back at work (even if not for the full nine-to-five), employers should see increased productivity, restoring a positive return on investment in their staff. Employees that have a better work-life balance are more productive, focused, and innovative at work.
